Kimon Socrates Demetrios Drossulis, or as we all know him as Kim, was the best type of man anyone could ask to have known, left this world suddenly on 0ctober 3, 2011. He was a loving husband, father, and Papou (Greek for Grandpa). He always lived for the moment and never dwelled on the past. He was a fashion trend setter in his own unique and beloved way, and very few ever came to comprehend his sense of style such as the infamous pink shirt and florescent yellow shorts. He believed this ensemble to be the true path to cool along with the dollar sunglasses or the ever present Hawaiian shirts. He taught us all to "...never give up and to never surrender..." in life’s daily battles. The path to success he showed us was one with many trials and tribulations. No matter how many times you falter or get knocked down it was all about getting back up; continue on the path to obtain your goal. He truly was a man who thought nothing was out of reach. For Kim, life was all about the journey. The little things in life made his day, week, or month. Even the bad made him smile the one we all know and love...almost a smirk. His passions in life were his work, his family (especially his handsome grandson), politics, and his sinful vice of Lipton ice tea. We will all remember the good things from our husband, father, brother, uncle, and Papou.
Kim was a mining engineer by trade, and mainly worked in precious metals. We had a saying that G-O-L-D was a four letter word in our house! He received his bachelor degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Utah in 1979 and was in the profession for 32 years. His work was primarily in the Nevada area, but had projects that extended as far as South America, Canada, and Asia. It was a passion of his, but could not compare to the passion he had for being a family man. He loved his family with all of his heart and with all of his being. He would always do the little things just to make us smile or to help us through a tough day. Mom would never know when flowers would just show up at work just because...the all-time favorite had a card that read; "From your favorite foaming rabid conservative." We all have a great legacy to live up to and to treasure. Kim was known for his ever present smile, a loving and generous spirit and an "interesting and unique" sense of humor. He never met a person that he did not like or could not find something good about. To really understand him, you needed to know that his hero in life was Buzz Lightyear. As we’re sure, most know Buzz’s famous saying. However, Kim’s translation of this same saying probably took on a slightly different path. We never heard it audibly, but saw it in every action...if we could take the liberty to slightly modify from "To infinity and beyond" we would say his motto would be "With love and passion to infinity and beyond!" He is survived by his loving spouse Susan Ellis Drossulis of 34 years, his children Christopher James; Alexander Ellis; Jessica Mercedes; daughter (in-law) Amanda, and grandson Ethan Alexander with one more grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his Aunt Marguerite Davis of Salt Lake City, sister Irene Chapralis of Redwood City, father (in law) and numerous brothers and sister (in-laws) cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 8, 2011 at the LDS Church, 7625 Shadow Lane Sparks Nevada at 11:00. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 at the church. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery after the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice or to: SME Scholarship fund c/o Telesto Nevada, Sierra Nevada Donate Life, or to the Pediatric Neurology department at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. Kim we love you always and forever and to infinity and beyond. |
