Scholarships Offered for 2010

SME Grant of $1,500 to be awarded in September, 2010.

The NNV Sections of the SME is pleased to announce that they will be accepting applications from full-time students at UNR in the Mining, Metallurgical and Geology programs whose study is geared toward hard rock mining. We will be offering 2 to 4 $1,500 scholarships for the upcoming school year of 2010 to 2011. Applicants should answer the following in a thoughtful manner:

1. Describe your field of study and any future academic plans.
2. Explain the importance of your major in today's society
3. What are the most important issues your field of study is facing today?
4. Why are you a good candidate to receive this scholarship?
5. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
6. From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your education?
7. Please provide your GPA in your field of study and overall GPA.
8. What professional associations are you a member?

Responses need to be received by the end of May 2010 and limited to two typed pages. Applicant's responses will be reviewed and evaluated by the next 2010 to 2011 NNV SME Executive Board. NNV SME will notify you which applicants were selected to receive the scholarships by the end of June 2010 and scholarships are to be awarded at the Sept. 2010 NNV SME monthly meeting.

Past Scholarship Recipients

A major function of the SMENNV is to fund scholarships for students entering into a mining education.

Another function are the FREE lunches to the students.

Four Scholarship recipient s attended the 9 March 2007 meeting.

They are John Gates, Matt Hemsath, Elizabeth Lenox and Sara Pettitt.

 

John, Matt and Elizabeth are graduating seniors, Sara will be at UNR for another year .
